Constrained-layer damping is a vibration-suppression method used in mechanical engineering. Any vibration generated on either side of the constraining materials (the two stiffer materials on the sides) is trapped and dissipated in the viscoelastic or middle layer.


Constrained layer damping solutions, which include applying a thin layer of damping polymer to a structure, have been utilised for a long time as a method of exposing damping to a structure. These thin layer limited layer damping treatments have shown outstanding results in a variety of applications.
