Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) Market Size, Share, Growth, Outlook, and Opportunity Analysis, Forecast 2018 - 2026
![]() |
Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene is a fluorine-based polymer with high temperature and corrosion resistance, high tensile strength, radiation resistance, thermal stability, and is relatively lightweight. Because of its low coefficient of friction, it is used as an alternative to glass and hard plastic in some buildings for scratch protection and roofing. ETFE film is fully recyclable and self-cleaning. It is also used for electrical and fiber-optic wiring insulation.
Increasing demand for ETFC cables from the aerospace industry, rising demand from various end-use industries, and high impact resistance are the major factors driving Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene market growth globally. ETFEs are used in high-performance applications such as heat, low temperature, chemical internet, and electrical insulation. Because ETFE is semi-transparent, it can be used as a viable substitute for glass or traditional plastic. ETFE is an appealing replacement for glass because it retains 1% of the weight of glass while transmitting 25% more light and is less expensive to install. ETFE is an excellent material for use in architectural structures. Because of its superior transmission of UV and longwave radiation, it is widely used in outdoor constructions.
The growing use of ETFE in the development of polymer electrolyte membranes is expected to drive market growth. In July 2019, for example, researchers from Clausthal University of Technology in Germany reported the fabrication of polymer electrolyte membranes via graft copolymerization of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid and acrylic acid on poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and ETFE activated by electron beam treatment.
